This month, we celebrate Skin Awareness, UV Awareness, Hyperpigmentation/Melasma Awareness, and National Healthy Skin Month. Let’s take a moment to appreciate and protect our skin—our body’s largest organ!
Skin Awareness: Our skin plays a vital role in protecting us from dehydration, infection, and pain while regulating body temperature.
UV Awareness: UV rays from the sun, tanning beds, and sunlamps can cause severe skin damage, including sunburn and skin cancer. Take precautions such as seeking shade, wearing sun-protective clothing, and applying sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
Hyperpigmentation/Melasma Awareness:“Melasma is a skin condition that doesn’t appear overnight. The best way to avoid hyperpigmentation is sunscreen, of course, but also, just as importantly, polarized sunglasses and a hat.” – Kate Filiberto
